India stresses cooperation potential with Latin America and Caribbean

New Delhi, March 20 (Prensa Latina) Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar highlighted the potential for collaboration between India and the nations of the Latin American and Caribbean region in the areas of health, food security, and energy.

In the special plenary session “Promoting Economic Partnerships for Collaborative Growth” on the final day of the India-Latin America and the Caribbean (India-LAC) summit, the minister emphasized the importance of mining, infrastructure, and defense as areas to explore.

Jaishankar noted that innovation and startups (companies or ventures focused on a single product or service, among other characteristics) can help build more bridges. “Our development partnerships with the LAC region will continue to bear fruit,” he stated, and considered that both sides are forging dynamic economic integrations to drive collaborative growth.

The official noted that the alliance between the two regions fosters innovation and investment, leveraging India’s strengths in information technology, manufacturing, and renewable energy, while LAC’s focus on nearshoring, trade diversification, and sustainability.

The ambitious renewable energy goals of Latin American and Caribbean nations align with India’s leadership in solar and clean energy initiatives, Jaishankar said, and advocated for further opportunities in financial technology, e-commerce, and digital services as a path to shared prosperity and sustainable development.

The minister reiterated India’s commitment to boosting trade, which currently exceeds $40 billion, and to greater integration between the two regions. He also mentioned the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance as mechanisms to mediate the interests of greater connectivity between India and Latin America and the Caribbean.
