Initially, the campaign was scheduled to start on Monday, March 24, but CNE authorities decided on an early beginning, and now are planning to end it by April 10.
According to the electoral body, this will provide voters with more time to get to know the plans and proposals from the aspiring candidates: incumbent president Daniel Noboa, seeking reelection, and Luisa Gonzalez, from the Citizen’s Revolution.
In this way, Noboa would attend the debate free of his current presidential responsibilities, as he would have to request a temporary leave to attend the campaign, as stipulated by the electoral law.
However, there are doubts as to whether Noboa will bequeath power and who would replace him, since the Vice President, Veronica Abad, is in Turkey, following his instructions.
