The organization holds the presidents of the United States, Donald Trump, and El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, responsible for penalizing migrants and incarcerating them in prisons built for repressive purposes by the Central American ruler, as “part of the business of the capitalist system.”
The statement emphasizes the importance of safeguarding migrant communities, who often find themselves in vulnerable and dangerous circumstances in their search for a better livelihood.
Regarding the Bolivarian Republic, the organization clarifies that the departure of thousands of Venezuelans from the country was due to “coercion, the use of Venezuelan funds deposited in international banks, and the economic siege through (…) thousands of sanctions imposed against Venezuela by the United States and the international financial world.”
The chapter requests the global community to issue resolutions condemning Washington’s human rights violations against migrants of any origin, especially Venezuelans. It also deplores the fact that they are labeled as criminals simply because of their country of origin to justify their detention in centers that are difficult or even impossible to access.
