Venezuela collects signatures in support of kidnapped migrants

Caracas, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) The people of Venezuela will take to public squares across the country to collect signatures in support of the more than 200 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States to El Salvador.

The solidarity action is part of the Always Dignity Campaign, promoted by national authorities. The campaign will support the steps taken to file complaints before multilateral and bilateral mechanisms, governments, countries, courts, and others.

“Rest assured, we will do everything,” President Nicolás Maduro stated Tuesday, noting that they are working to ensure that the Salvadoran government returns the deportees, who committed no crime and were denied due process. “With God’s favor and the world’s support, we will do everything we must. They are not criminals, they are innocent,” he asserted.

Jorge Rodríguez, who was appointed by the Venezuelan government for the Peace Talks, declared on Monday that they will do everything within the power of the State, the Government, and diplomacy. “We will resort to all bilateral relations and legal strategies to ensure they are returned to their homes, their families, and their country, safeguarding their rights as good men and women,” he stated.

Rodríguez announced the signature collection this Wednesday and called on all Venezuelans “regardless of whether they have a political position or opinion, whether opposition or Chavista.”

A survey revealed that 91 percent of citizens considered the Donald Trump administration’s measure to be a violation of Venezuelans’ human rights, while 89 percent rejected the fact that it was applied arbitrarily to all equally.
