Kenyan officer injured by gang members in Haiti receives care

Port-au-Prince Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) The Kenyan officer of the Multinational Security Support Force (MMAS) wounded by gang members in Haiti remains today under medical care.

His name was not revealed by the superior command of the MMAS, but they specified that his case is not serious.

The African soldier was participating in a joint operation with the Haitian National Police in the commune of Kenscoff.

According to the newspaper Le Nouvelliste, two helicopters from El Salvador evacuated the Kenyan officer.

At the beginning of March, military officer Samuel Tompoi, who was wounded in the head during an operation against the Grand Grif gang in the area of Ségur-Savien (Bas-Artibonite), was repatriated to Kenya.

The death of the officer on February 23 has profound repercussions in Kenya, where the news rekindled tensions and concerns that were already present before the deployment of the first contingent in Haiti.

Many Kenyans – recalled the Kominotek News website – denounced the sending of their soldiers to a foreign territory marked by complex conflicts.

This casualty in anti-gang combat highlights the high risks faced by the forces of the MMAS.
