Speaking before the Senate on Tuesday ahead of the next European Council meeting to be held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, on March 20-21, Meloni emphasized that the resumption of Tel Aviv’s attacks “endangers the objectives we are all working toward.”
The prime minister emphasized in her speech, published on the Presidency of the Council of Ministers’ website, that those actions jeopardize the objective of achieving “the release of all hostages, the permanent end of hostilities, and the return of humanitarian aid to the Strip.”
Israeli forces broke the ceasefire deal on Tuesday and resumed their aggression against the Palestinian enclave, which in the first hours killed some 400 people and injured 500 others, among them many women and children, adding to more than 46,000 victims caused between October 2023 and January 2025.
The head of Government also talked about the developments in Syria, and condemned “the latest brutal attacks in which militias linked to the new transitional government killed hundreds of civilians, mostly belonging to the Alawite minority, but also affecting the Christian minority.”
In relation to the conflicts in the Middle East, Meloni also noted that, “We consider the political developments in Lebanon very encouraging” and assured that “Italy will continue to do its part in favor of Lebanese stability and sovereignty.”
