Death toll rises after renewed Israeli attacks on Gaza

Ramallah, Mar 19 (Prensa Latina) At least 14 Palestinians were killed in recent hours in Gaza as a result of Israeli bombardments for the second consecutive day amid fears of escalating violence in the region.

The Red Crescent Society reported that two civilians were killed and five others were wounded when an Israeli drone attacked a tent housing displaced people near the Al-Mawasi area, in the south of the enclave. Six more, including a woman and a child, died in two similar incidents in the nearby town of Khan Yunis, the Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported.

Paramedics reported transporting four bodies and several wounded to Baptist Hospital in Gaza City after an Israeli air strike on a home.

The Israel Defense Forces resumed bombing of the Strip yesterday with the stated aim of putting pressure on the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

According to official numbers, more than 430 Palestinians were killed in just over 24 hours as a result of the attack, which ended a truce in place since January 19th.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth emphasized that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has no intention of stopping the attacks; on the contrary, he threatened to increase them despite the wave of international criticism. “This is just the beginning; from now on, we will only negotiate with Hamas under fire,” Netanyahu threatened yesterday in an address to the nation.

The Israeli offensive further aggravated the humanitarian crisis in the Strip, which was affected by Israel’s decision to block the entry of all humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, water, and fuel, since the 2nd of March.

In recent days, various UN agencies, including the World Food Program, have warned of a potential famine if Israel maintains the siege, while the World Health Organization has denounced the lack of basic medical supplies.
