Cuban and Chinese Journalists Associations Strengthen Ties

Havana, March 19 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of the Union of Cuban Journalists and the Chinese Journalists Association held a meeting today with the aim of strengthening ties of cooperation and solidarity.

In the context of the IV Patria International Colloquium, both parties expressed their willingness to increase and diversify collaboration, as part of the excellent state of relations between the governments and peoples of their countries.

According to the First Vice President of the Cuban organization, Bolivian Tamara Cruz, during the “cordial meeting,” the most recent actions of the exchange between the associations were evaluated.

“Five years ago, the People’s Republic of China provided a three million dollar loan to modernize the technology and vehicle fleet of provincial newspapers, national presses, and the Cubana de Noticia and Prensa Latina news agencies,” she recalled. “That loan became effective at the end of last year,” she stated, adding that, “in a very special way,” the training of several Cuban journalists in China was provided.

On behalf of them and the presidency of the UPEC (Union of Cuban Journalists), we appreciate this support, she commented.

She also explained that the Cuban press “is delving into the use of Artificial Intelligence” and already has the first Cuban announcer created with this technology, who “is from the Sancti Spíritus radio station and is named Rosalba.”

Today, the media outlet at the forefront of the use of Artificial Intelligence is Ideas Multimedios, the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba added.

From our sister nation, China, she emphasized, we hope to strengthen our training with experts in this field to teach courses at the José Martí International Institute of Journalism and extend technological support to Cuban Radio and Television.

While the United States insists on blockading us and suffocating Cuba just 90 miles away, China, on the other side of the world, breaks the blockade every day, he said.
