“On Tuesday, we will sign the enactment of the secondary laws of the constitutional reform at the PEMEX (Petróleos Mexicanos) event,” Sheinbaum announced last Friday during her regular press conference.
The Chamber of Deputies recently approved eight new laws and amendments to two existing regulations with the purpose of consolidating energy sovereignty and strengthening Pemex and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
According to a statement, the goal is to strengthen state-owned companies, provide order and certainty to private actors, increase participants’ monitoring capacity, improve regulation from a technical perspective, strengthen traceability in processes, offer a clear legal framework for energy transition activities, as well as for the electricity and hydrocarbon sectors, and regain control of the sector, prioritizing national energy security, the well-being of the population, and the sustainability of resources.
Last year, Sheinbaum signed the decree by which PEMEX and CFE once again became public companies, after the corresponding amendment was declared constitutional, thus beginning to reverse the 2013 reform, considered harmful to the nation’s interests.
