An official release issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers informed that during the meeting, held at the Chigi Palace, the seat of the Italian government, the two leaders discussed mainly the current situation in the Gaza Strip, “where humanitarian needs remain urgent.”
The cooperation between Italy and Jordan to bring assistance to the Palestinian population in that region, a victim of Israel’s aggression, which has killed more than 46,000 people there, was addressed, and the Italian Food for Gaza initiative was highlighted.
Meloni and King Abdullah II of Jordan assessed the positive results of the two-nation initiative called A Bridge for Gaza, developed in January 2025, in which personnel and aerial means participated. The initiative enabled to send, by helicopter, some 100 tons of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in the Strip.
Meloni reiterated his government’s full support for Jordan’s important role in the Middle East region as a force for peace and dialogue, and called to cooperate to end violence in Syria and achieve an inclusive transition involving all components of society.
King Abdullah II of Jordan noted that the economic recovery in that Arab country remains crucial, also to enable a voluntary, dignified, safe, and sustainable return of Syrian refugees.
