Israel prevents sick and wounded Palestinians from leaving Gaza

Ramallah, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) Amid resumming strikes in Gaza, the Israeli government closed on Tuesday the Rafah border crossing, through which dozens of sick and wounded Palestinians were being transferred daily to Egypt to receive treatment.

The Palestinian media denounced the measure and the revival of the blockade imposed by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the enclave for more than two weeks.

Walla website informed that Defense Minister Israel Katz issued instructions early this Tuesday to close the crossing border as part of the campaign against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Resuming aggression against the coastal enclave coincides with the severe humanitarian crisis that its more than two million inhabitants are currently facing.

Gaza’s Government Media Office warned this week that 80 percent of Palestinians lack regular access to food due to the Israeli blockade, which threatens to lead to famine.
