These measures are a first step in the fight against the plundering of Congolese mineral wealth, and added that the DRC would continue to work with the international community to impose an embargo on minerals illegally extracted in the country and exported by Kigali.
Kinshasa also hopes that Rwanda’s contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping forces will be suspended in the future, in addition to imposing greater transparency in arms transfers to that country to obtain the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of its troops from Congolese territory.
The Government considered that the EU sanctions, as well as those announced by the United States, Great Britain, Germany, and Canada against Rwanda, show the conviction of the international community that the Rwandan Executive has a direct responsibility in the conflict in eastern DRC.
The statement reaffirmed Kinshasa’s commitment to the ongoing diplomatic processes to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution to the conflict in the region, as recommended by UN Security Council Resolution 2773 (2025).
