Santiago Alvarez In Memoriam International Documentary Film Festival

Havana, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) The 22nd Santiago Alvarez In Memoriam International Documentary Film Festival (Fidsa), which will run until March 21, is developing its activities at its headquarters in Santiago de Cuba and also in this capital.

In the eastern province, the theoretical session of the forum is being held, which has 37 works in competition, out of 159 submitted, in addition to the participation of some thirty foreign filmmakers.

During its inauguration this weekend, the international president of Fitdsa, Osain Alvarez, highlighted the importance and validity of documentary cinema given the current crisis in the world.

At the same time, he described this type of audiovisual as a tool to fight disinformation, to tell the history of peoples and to give voices to those who have none, but adapted to the most current narratives.

The Festival’s edition has a large participation of young people, and is a platform to continue showing the Latin American Icaic News, directed by Santiago Alvarez and a collection inscribed in the Memory of the World Register of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

The Havana sub-host, located at the Charles Chaplin cinema, will screen documentaries in competition and parallel screenings.

A demonstration of solidarity with the Palestinian people is scheduled for Monday with the presentation of the feature-length documentary La Raíz del Olivo, by Bolivian-Cuban filmmaker Sergio Eguino.
