Last February 18, the official delegations of Russia and the United States met for the first time in Saudi Arabia to seek the normalization of relations between the two countries, to finalize the first summit between Putin and Trump, and to facilitate possible negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

The meeting in Saudi Arabia came nearly a week after the first telephone conversation between Putin and Trump in which they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, prisoner exchanges, the Iranian nuclear program, and the state of relations between Washington and Moscow.
