Peskov said about a possible conversation between the two leaders on the 18th is true, and conditions are being prepared for it, although he refused to present details about that talk and its topics.
On Sunday, the U.S. president’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, assumed that Trump and Putin would hold a telephone talk this week and called his recent meeting with the Russian leader “positive”.
In the special envoy’s view, both Moscow and Kiev want to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, and ‘the parties are ready’ to address the details of agreements.
Last February 18, the official delegations of Russia and the United States met for the first time in Saudi Arabia to seek the normalization of relations between the two countries, to finalize the first summit between Putin and Trump, and to facilitate possible negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
The meeting in Saudi Arabia came nearly a week after the first telephone conversation between Putin and Trump in which they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, prisoner exchanges, the Iranian nuclear program, and the state of relations between Washington and Moscow.
