The Ministry of Defense reported that Lebanese units responded appropriately to fire from Syrian territory after several villages and towns in the Lebanese border region were attacked.
The army leadership stated that it maintains ongoing contact with Syrian authorities to preserve security and ensure stability in the border region.
According to the Al-Mayadeen pan-Arab channel, artillery fire from positions of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, now in power in Syria, in Quseir remained constant, hitting a house in the Orontes River basin, near Hawsh Al-Sayyid Ali, on the Lebanese-Syrian border.
This is not the first time that border clashes have occurred between Lebanon and the new Syrian authorities, who assumed control of Damascus after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December.
In January of this year, at least four Lebanese Army soldiers were injured during a Syrian attack in the Ma’arboun-Baalbek area.
In early February, the Lebanese Army deployed units to the strategic hills of Safawi-Qanafez and Harf al-Samaqah with the clear mandate of controlling the area following Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham bombings against Lebanese clans.
