The move comes in response to Washington’s bombing raids on Yemen over the weekend that have already left 53 dead and nearly 100 wounded.
The information was released by the Houthi spokesman, Yahya Sari, who affirmed that the action against the U.S. ship was carried out north of the Red Sea with several ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, in a confrontation which lasted several hours.
Separately, the Houthi Interior Ministry reported four attacks on a government compound building in the district of Al Hazm, located in the governorate of Yauf in northwestern Yemen.
Amid its new measures by decree, the U.S. government announced last week the designation of the Houthi movement as an international terrorist organization.
The Houthis have controlled large areas of central, northern and southern Yemen, including the capital, since 2014 after taking up arms against the government, an event that sparked a civil war that continues today.
In November 2023, they launched attacks against Israel-bound shipping through the Red Sea as a response to Zionist aggression in the Gaza Strip.
