ECLAC to assess progress and challenges to fulfill 2030 Agenda

Santiago, Chile, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) With only five years remaining to implement the 2030 Agenda, ECLAC is currently organizing a forum on Sustainable Development, where progress and challenges will be analyzed to reach those goals.

From March 31 to April 4, representatives of governments, the United Nations, regional and international organizations, private sectors, academia, and civil societies will attend the event, to be held at the Chilean headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) .

A decade ago, 193 United Nations member countries approved an ambitious agenda of 17 goals for 2030 seeking to eliminate poverty and improve education and healthcare, among other purposes, under the principle that no one should be left behind.

A report will be presented during the 8th ECLAC meeting in which participants will address how the region is progressing in fulfilling these goals and delve into issues of health and well-being, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, underwater life, and partnerships to achieve the objectives.

ECLAC Executive Secretary Jose Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs said this edition of the forum is very significant because 2025 marks 10 years since the 2030 Agenda began to be implemented, and because we are just five years away from the target.
