United Nations opens largest annual meeting on gender equality

United Nations, March 10 (Prensa Latina) – The focus of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), which opens on Monday, is the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 30 years after its implementation.

This meeting, taking place at UN headquarters in New York until March 21, aims to assess the progress made since the Declaration was adopted in 1995 at the Fourth World Conference on Women. The Declaration remains the most revolutionary agenda for gender equality.

As the largest annual meeting dedicated to women’s empowerment and gender equality within the multilateral body, CSW69 emphasizes the need for continued advocacy and action.

According to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), while progress has been made, it has been far too slow, uneven, and fragile. Alarmingly, every 10 minutes, a woman is murdered by a family member.
