The former individual, who left the portfolio for the latter, will assume the position previously held by Nísia Trindade, who was dismissed by Lula on February 25.
Head of the government’s political articulation since January 2023, Padilha returns to the portfolio he held between 2011 and 2014 in another Workers’ Party (PT) government, that of former President Dilma Rousseff.
Hoffmann will occupy the responsibility left by Padilha in a move taken as a surprise in the political field.
To take office, she retired on Friday from the function of national president of the PT.
The congresswoman had led the party, the largest left-wing party in Latin America, since 2017 and passed the helm to Senator Humberto Costa, who will serve a four-month capped term.
This will be the eighth exchange in the first level of Lula’s government, since the progressive leader took office for his third term in January 2023.
