The EU verdict can in no way have any legal or executive force because it needs approval by consensus of all 27 States of the community block, the head of Hungarian diplomacy noted. The EU declaration in support of Ukraine only reflects a political opinion of 26 countries of the bloc, but we reject the pressures and in no way wish to join the side of those who want the prolongation of the conflict, the diplomat pointed out.
Last Thursday, Hungary opposed the EU statement on Ukraine, so the document was only published as a political text and the matter will be brought up for discussion again at another summit of the community bloc on March 20.
The EU document highlights the bloc’s willingness to maintain the rearmament of Kiev and pressure with unilateral punitive measures against Russia.
The statement is hus intended to show unity in the face of the change of position in the United States with the arrival at the White House of Donald Trump who, in addition to calling for an end to the confrontation, suspended all military aid to Ukraine.
Washington and Moscow brought their positions closer regarding the need to end the confrontation that intensified on February 24, 2022, when President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation to protect the rebellious population of Donbas and demilitarize Ukraine.
