Late last night, the 71 deputies barely concluded the reading of 300 amendments to the bill the Government forwarded last November 6, as it seeks to impose it at Parliament, an attempt bluntly rejected by the workers currently demonstrating outside the Legislative.
Deputies have voiced an array of views on the document, mainly differing on such items as the regulations guiding the investment of CSS funds and the suitability of financial entities in charge of Social Security funds, among other aspects.
They also demanded changes to the required pensions and quotas to establish old age retirement pensions. Retirement age is still pending of further analyses.
Friday’s debates were resumed following a challenge by Panameñista Partys’ Ariana Coba to the presidential order to end discussions, as she aims to withdraw old amendments and bring fresh ones, which in her words are essential to make the bill’s applicable.
