China and Cuba highlight women’s contributions to society

Beijing, Mar 6 (Prensa Latina) China and Cuba today highlighted the contributions of women to socioeconomic progress and their transforming role in each country, next to the upcoming International Women's Day.

Representatives from different sectors of both nations celebrated the day and recalled emblematic figures of the revolutionary processes in Cuba and China.

Cuba’s Ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, highlighted the life and work of Cuban leader Vilma Espin, and the work of many women in restoring and preserving the cultural heritage of the Caribbean nation.

Beijing and Havana share a political willingness to protect and promote females’ empowerment through national development programs and the creation of groups such as the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) and the All-China Women’s Federation.

China recently reaffirmed its commitment to global women’s issues, gender equality, and inclusive development on the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action.

China’s first female astronaut, Liu Yang, also outlined the achievements and high-quality development philosophies of her country’s women in modern era.

The government’s report to the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress, which opened in Beijing on Thursday, reflected the authorities’ commitment to “the legal rights and interests of women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.”
