Last Thursday Ahmed arrived in Mogadishu, his first trip since February 2023, and was received at the Adan Abdulle International Airport by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The Ethiopian head of government, on his X social network account, thanked Mohamud for the warm welcome and revealed that they discussed a variety of areas, including peace and security, economy, diplomacy and the potential to build joint infrastructure.

He specified in the publication that “the Horn of Africa is rich in resources: fertile land, fresh water and human capital. However, as a region, we struggle to feed ourselves. This makes integration essential to achieve our shared aspirations”.

As a region, he underscored the immense potential that must be harnessed to achieve collective greatness. Regional thinking and collaboration is essential and we stand ready to work with Somalia to make this a reality, he concluded.

As a result of the talks, the two governments issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation for mutual benefit.
