Representatives of the initiative, promoted by the National Episcopal Conference of Congo (Cenco) and the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC), met this week with the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou-N’Guesso, after having met with other figures.
The delegation, that traveled to Brazzaville, was led by the Archbishop of Lubumbashi Fulgence Muteba Mugalu and the Reverend Professor André Gédéon Bokundoa Bo-Likabe, who requested the support of the Congolese president, considering him the leader of the negotiations on the African continent.
“Sassou-N’Guesso has undeniable experience: he is the center of reconciliation in Libya, played an important role in the conflict in the Central African Republic and has always been present at great moments when the Congolese united to seek peace”, they said after the meeting.
The neighboring country joins the exchanges that Cenco and ECC had with the president of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi, to whom they presented their initiative last February 3 as a project for a way out of the crisis in the east of the country. They also held talks with the rebels of the March 23 Movement (M23) and the Congo River Alliance (AFC), as part of consultations with various political and social forces with the aim of obtaining support.
