U.S. stance questioned on anti-gang fight in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) The delay of the United States in delivering the keys of armored vehicles to facilitate the fight against gangs is today questioned in Haiti, where criminal gangs are gaining strength and ground.

According to the website Kominotek News, the Washington representation in Port-au-Prince, which says it wants to support nation, is slow in delivering the vehicles and other equipment promised to the Haitian National Police (HNP).

Despite the urgency, the keys to these armored vehicles are still in the hands of U.S. authorities, preventing the police from intensifying the fight against gangs.

The source also questioned the Multinational Security Support Mission, since it is supposed to come to the country’s aid, but in reality it remains invisible, which fuels doubts about the international community’s real willingness to intervene.

Recently, law enforcement officers expressed their displeasure in front of Prime Minister Alix Didier’s office and denounced the lack of adequate equipment, which prevented the HNP from carrying out effective operations on the ground.

Meanwhile, Kominotek News underlines, the population trapped by the violence, lives in anguish, and many families terrorized by gang assaults flee their homes without a specific destination, desperately seeking refuge.
