According to the FSB statement published this Friday in the national press, the terrorist attack against Metropolitan Tikhon was planned by the Ukrainian intelligence service and was to be carried out in Moscow taking advantage of the cleric’s visit.
The service reported that as part of the operation, one Ukrainian citizen and one Russian citizen recruited by the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine through the social network Telegram were detained.
The FSB seized an explosive device and two counterfeit Ukrainian passports.
The suspects confessed that in mid-2024 they were recruited by a Ukrainian intelligence agent to assassinate the church authority. In December 2024, an explosive device was delivered to them through a hideout. After the crime, they planned to flee Russia using the counterfeit passports provided by Ukrainian intelligence, the statement said.
Authorities opened proceedings against the two detainees on charges of planning a terrorist act and illegal trafficking of explosive devices.
