The presentations will take place from this day until March 2 with female themes as the central axis and the presence of theater groups from Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Colombia, according to the director of the Tomás Terry Theater, Miguel Cañellas, who is in charge of the event’s organizing committee.
As Cañellas explained to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), this is the sixth edition of the festival since it became a Latin American celebration, thanks to the interest shown by theater groups in America, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Prestigious groups from the island will also fill the venues of the event, such as Pálpito, Teatro Escambray, Estudio Teatral de Santa Clara, Teatro de Las Estaciones, groups that will perform in the Main Hall, the Ateneo del Coliseo Tomás Terry, the Guanaroca Hall and the A Cuestas Theater, among others.
The deputy director of the Tomás Terry Theater, Yanara Mejías, told ACN that the Cuban companies’ plays include Las penas saben nadar, Favez y Remolinos en las aguas, Desde el sótano, Historia de Papel and Me llamaban Tula.
Some of the issues addressed by the monologuists and outlined in the artistic program focus on violence against women, unrequited love and the struggles for gender equity in times when women were forbidden to enter universities.
The event will also include theoretical space for lectures, workshops, practical classes and book presentations.
One of the confirmed performing arts personalities is Costa Rican actress, singer, audiovisual creator and researcher Karina Picado, who participated in the previous edition.
Picado will give a workshop on the construction and neuro-emotional skills and neuro-reactions for actors and will do a dramatized reading of a text.
