The military corps explained in a statement that at the meeting, held in the department of Nueva Segovia and also attended by transporters and merchants, Zelaya learned about the proposals to strengthen the fight against cattle rustling and drug trafficking in that area of the country.
He also conveyed the greetings of the chief of the Nicaraguan Army, General Julio César Avilés, and expressed the commitment to continue to work with municipal authorities, producers and transporters, so that they can work in an environment of security, stability and peace.
“The Army’s participation is very important because it comes to contribute a lot in terms of agricultural production, it has have stood out in the security of the coffee harvest (…) it has been effective because there is a border area and a lot of surveillance is required,” producer Denis Madariaga said.
The mayor of the municipality of San Fernando, Leónidas Vílchez, described the Army’s presence in the region as positive, because it guarantees confidence to producers by providing protection in neighborhoods and communities.
