According to the Ministry’s statement, Lavrov is making the trip in response to an invitation from Araghchi, and it will be Lavrov’s first visit to Iran since the signing of the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement on January 17th.
The communiqué specifies that the heads of Russian and Iranian diplomacy will discuss in depth the agenda of bilateral relations. Among other issues, they will also analyze the increase in economic-commercial cooperation through the implementation of key joint projects in the fields of energy and transportation.
In addition, Lavrov and Araghchi will discuss a number of issues on the international agenda, including the situations in Syria, Transcaucasia, Afghanistan, Yemen, the Persian Gulf, the Middle East, as well as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program.
