This was confirmed at a press conference by Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, director of the Bureau for Telecommunication Development (BDT) of the United Nations entity.
He confirmed that to achieve this goal, the event to be held in the Caribbean nation from March 11 to 13 in the resort of Varadero, will serve as a space to address issues such as digital inclusion, education and sustainability of technologies.
Luckyson Zavazava, who participated virtually in the appearance with the Cuban and foreign press, highlighted Cuba’s potential in terms of progress in the development of technological capabilities and recalled that the Caribbean nation has collaborated on several occasions with the ITU in other events such as Accessible America.
These international events, also organized twice on the Caribbean island, were attended by more than 150 delegates from Venezuela, the United States, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, China, Spain and other nations, who discussed the strengthening of digital inclusion policies and strategies in member countries; he recalled.
He also pointed out that the ITU youth summit will be the ideal space for young people from all latitudes to come together, who will also discuss cybersecurity and the best proposals to continue closing digital gaps.
For his part, Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Communications Ernesto Rodríguez said that for three days, the country will be the world epicenter of a social challenge: designing a digital future for all young people and from their perspectives, proposals and knowledge.
This collective construction constitutes today not only a technological goal, but a cultural one that highlights the central role of the new generations in the digital transformation, he said.
The CMJ-25 debate program includes sessions dedicated to the ways in which ICTs are revolutionizing telehealth, promoting safe listening practices and addressing mental health challenges in all age groups.
In addition, delegates to the summit will discuss Cybersecurity, digitalization of societies and economies; and the increasing exposure to cyber attacks and threats.
The purpose will be to find solutions to anticipate online risks, share essential skills to stay safe on the Internet and consolidate solid resilience in cybersecurity over time. On March 12, they will develop a guided networking and quick association session to promote and encourage the implementation of projects and activities led by young people in the exhibition space, empowerment from economic aspects of ICT and digital transformation: innovative business models.
