Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian commented on Beijing’s stance defended by Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
In this context, the spokesperson retook three key points from the foreign minister’s speech on China’s vision for promoting a fair and effective global governance of human rights.
To begin with, Wang Yi stressed the importance of recalling the people-centered leading principles and people’s interests as the starting point.
He strongly rejected actions that use human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs.
Secondly, the foreign minister stressed the need to uphold justice and equity as central goals.
He proposed that the rights to livelihood and development should be considered as a priority of basic human rights, advocating for a balance between individual and collective rights so that they are mutually reinforcing.
The diplomat called, as the third point, to exchange and mutual learning as a way forward in this area.
He also called for constructive dialogues based on equality and respect, while urging greater representation and voice for the Global South countries.
