UN leader urges peaceful solution to conflict in Ukraine

United Nations, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, insisted today on the urgency of achieving a “just, sustainable and comprehensive” peace proposal to end the conflict in Ukraine.

In a statement, Guterres advocated for the immediate cessation of hostilities in that European nation, regretting the thousands of deaths and destruction reported after three years of crisis.

He also welcomed all efforts to achieve a just and inclusive peace, in addition to ensuring that the UN is ready to support any initiative in this regard.

The leader of the international organization spoke in this way on the occasion of the fact that this February 24 marks three years since the beginning of the Russian special military operation on Ukrainian territory.

According to President Vladimir Putin, the objectives of the maneuver are to protect the population from “genocide by Kyiv” and to tackle the national security risks posed by the advance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization towards the east.

Meanwhile, the deputy head of the Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, said that military action is the only way to protect Russia and its citizens, and “time has shown that this difficult decision was the only correct and possible one.”

In his opinion, the fight against “neo-Nazism and its followers is not over yet, but its outcome is already very close” because Moscow will not allow “the global apocalypse” and will make the revenge of Nazism impossible.

“The main thing is to save the infinite Motherland and do everything possible for its prosperity,” Medvedev summed up.
