Netanyahu’s office said early on Sunday that the release had been postponed until further notice because it considered humiliating the ceremonies performed by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) during the release of Israeli prisoners.
According to the statement, Israel will not fulfill its part of the deal until the Islamist militia commits to ending these activities.
The armed group released six Israeli citizens on Saturday as Israel set to free 602 Palestinians, who even boarded buses to be transferred but the Netanyahu government backed out at the last minute.
According to The Times of Israel, authorities are furious because Hamas had brought on Saturday two prisoners to a release ceremony for others.
In response, Hamas leader Izzat al-Risheq denied Israel’s charges and accused Netanyahu of violating the ceasefire deal.
