The ministry noted that since March 2024 both parties have maintained several rounds of communication on US investigations related to these industries.
“China has reiterated its position on multiple occasions regarding the investigation under section 301,” the statement said.
Beijing provided documents to explain its position and urged Washington to act rationally and objectively without blaming it for internal problems.
According to the ministry, recent proposals, including port fees, have generated criticism both inside and outside the country.
For the Ministry of Commerce, these measures not only harm China, but also the US economy, by increasing transportation costs, inflationary pressure and reducing the global competitiveness of US products.
In addition, the initiatives negatively affect port operators, workers and local companies in that nation.
Several countries and international organizations have expressed their opposition and discontent with the US actions.
“The United States is abusing trade tools for internal political reasons,” said the Chinese statement.
Beijing urged Washington to respect the facts and multilateral rules, and called on it to abandon what it considers a wrong path.
“We will closely follow any movements by the United States and take the necessary measures to protect our legitimate rights and interests,” the ministry added.
The statement was issued amid tensions between the two main economies of the world.
Washington applies 10 percent taxes on all products from China.
China’s response was tit-for-tat: it implemented additional tariffs on products imported from the United States.
Since February 10, 15 percent tariffs have been applied on coal and liquefied natural gas, while crude oil, agricultural machinery and other products will be subject to an additional 10 percent tariff.
“There are no winners in a trade war,” Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning said, a position that Chinese President Xi Jinping himself expounded to the Republican president during their telephone conversation last month.
