Olmedo Caba, executive director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi), received the mission from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with whom he shared the progress in the preparations for the event, which should bring together some two thousand specialists.
Participating on behalf of FAO were Ruhiza Jean Boroto, Land and Water Officer, and Rosaida Dolce, Water and Environment Specialist.
During the meeting, it was reported that inter-institutional work teams will be created for the success of this event, which will contribute to establishing FAO priorities in the different territories.
On the occasion, an invitation was extended to Indrhi to participate in the FAO meeting in Rome, with the purpose of promoting the forum and including in the same aspect that they strengthen the development and follow-up to its realization.
The event in the Dominican Republic will coincide with World Water Day, on March 22 of each year since 1993.
It was at the Earth Summit, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where in 1992 action was urged to address the problems related to this vital liquid.
In response to this call, the UN established this celebration to raise awareness about the importance of fresh water and the need to manage this resource in a sustainable manner.
Likewise, it seeks to adopt measures to address the global crisis of this vital liquid in support of Sustainable Development Goal number six: water and sanitation for all by 2030.
