Stranded killer whales euthanized in Tasmania, Australia

Canberra, Feb 20 (Prensa Latina) Australian scientists euthanized on Thursday about 90 killer whales that survived a stranding on a remote beach in Tasmania.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment in Tasmania noted in a statement that difficult weather conditions and remote access prevented rescue options, so its staff opted to euthanize them.

The authorities described the decision as correct in this complex situation and underscored that the best practices were used in the procedure.

The causes of the stranding are unknown, but scientists are investigating the case.
