The public opinion study entitled “Latin Americans: Perspectives of the International Environment” also collected the opinion of the inhabitants of the region on the resolution against the economic, commercial and financial siege presented by Cuba at the United Nations every year.
In this regard, the poll, corresponding to the second half of 2024, indicated that 78.9 percent of those interviewed said that they agreed with that resolution, while 21.1 percent expressed the opposite.
By countries, the survey highlighted that the Dominican Republic (83.2 percent), Venezuela (82.9), Nicaragua (82.3), and Panama (81.8) are the four nations with the highest percentage of support for the most recent resolution against the blockade presented by Cuba at the United Nations.
It also pointed out that 67.7 percent of the Latin Americans questioned considered that the current US administration headed by Donald Trump will not comply with the aforementioned document that advocates lifting the unilateral measure imposed by Washington on Cuba for more than six decades.
On the other hand, the survey referred to the United States policy towards the region and revealed that 80.1 percent of those interviewed expressed their rejection of the Monroe Doctrine, while only 19.9 accepted it.
It was learned that 86.6 percent of those surveyed rejected Latin America being considered the United States’ backyard.
The study also found that 52.5 percent believed that the US has historically appropriated the region’s natural resources.
