At the invitation of South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will also participate in this important forum to strengthen India’s engagement with the G20 countries, a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) release underscores.
Jaishankar is expected to interact with his counterparts from the bloc’s member countries.
Lamola recently noted that geopolitical issues will be the focus of the meeting, which he sees as an opportunity to lay a bridge between the Global South and Global North.
He also added to defend the right to development of the Global South, especially the African countries, in terms of development financing.
Lamola explained that Africa receives less than three percent of the global climate finance for development.
The ministerial meeting will take place amid regional armed conflicts such as those in Ukraine, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, or Sudan, and diplomatic tensions exacerbated by the actions of the current administration of US President Donald Trump.
