Syria aims to establish a pluralist system

Damascus, Feb 18 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman for the Preparatory Committee for the National Dialogue Conference, Hassan Al-Daghim, said that Syria is moving towards a pluralist system and a democratic state that guarantees the inclusive participation of all Syrians politically and socially.

Speaking at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information in this capital, Al-Daghim explained that the upcoming dialogue will ensure the participation of the people in the election of their country’s authorities and the drafting of its constitution.

The upcoming elections and the approval of the law on political parties will lead to the emergence of a new political opposition, he said. He added that the above will be a natural development in a state based on the principle of citizenship, and that Syria will no longer be a one-party state.

Regarding the country’s sovereignty issues, Al-Daghim explained that the issue of the Israeli presence in Syrian territory will be discussed within the framework of preserving the unity and sovereignty of the nation.

He stressed at the same time the importance of lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria.

In previous statements, this official explained that the dialogue will be a platform that rejects sectarian and ethnic divisions, and is based on the principle of citizenship, adding that the nature of the dialogue does not accept the participation of military formations at all.

The Syrian Presidency recently established the Preparatory Committee for the upcoming National Dialogue Conference, which will decide the political and constitutional future of the country.
