According to the Ministry of Health’s information bulletin, 169 patients remained in different hospitals in the country on Tuesday, while 128 cases of the disease were reported in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Cuanza Sul and Icolo and Bengo.
In spite of the actions taken by the Government, the epidemic persists and the rate of infection is not decreasing.
Angola has already vaccinated more than 925,000 people, but in view of the continuing number of people falling ill every day, the Ministry of Health decided last week to increase the target population for immunization to 1,079,476.
The Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, said a few days ago that the effort is to contain the outbreak in the month of March, because in April the rains increase in the country and this is a factor that favors the spread of the disease.
The data processing center of the epidemiological surveillance system of the National Directorate of Public Health reported that since the beginning of the epidemic, 4,235 people showed symptoms of the disease in Luanda, Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Cuanza Sul, Malanje, Huambo, Huíla, Zaire, Cuanza Norte and Cunene.
The country recorded 150 deaths and the most affected age group is from two to five years of age, with 648 cases and 23 deaths.
