In a statement, the Sandinista Executive assured that with Mahamoud’s leadership, the AU will continue to promote mutual understanding, dialogue, solidarity and development on the African continent.
“The Nicaraguan people and the brotherly peoples of Africa share historic cultural ties of struggle for independence and national sovereignty, as well as the ongoing yearning for peace and well-being,” the message stressed.
The text, signed by co-presidents Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, pointed out that Mahamoud can count on the friendship and solidarity of the Government of Nicaragua, as well as the commitment to continue to work for the strengthening of relations with the AU.
In another document, the highest Nicaraguan authorities also extended their congratulations to Algeria’s Selma Malika, who was elected as vice president of the African Union Commission.
In this document, the Central American nation highlighted the long tradition of struggle for independence and national sovereignty that unite the peoples of Algeria and Nicaragua and the rest of the African countries.
