Malaysia, South Korea hold FTA talks

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 17 (Prensa Latina) Malaysian and South Korean authorities are participating as of Monday in this capital in the 7th round of talks for a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) to expand their economic exchanges.

The four-day debates are focused on 11 key sectors, including goods, services, investment, and economic cooperation.

South Korea already has an FTA with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), but it is seeking individual deals with member countries to further broaden trade ties.

On January 1, 2025, Malaysia took over the chairmanship of ASEAN, which also includes Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar.

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, in turn, stressed that both nations are seeking to expand their trade portfolio and enhance cooperation.
