Our fondest memory today for Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, born on February 17, 1927. His cry of courage and dignity: “Nobody surrenders here, c…” is part of the DNA of Cuban revolutionaries, forever, the president wrote on X.
The president of the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, also paid tribute to the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, and brought up a phrase from the historic leader of the revolutionary process, Fidel Castro, who said, “I was a witness to his exemplary conduct during more than half a century of heroic and victorious resistance.”
Almeida, who died on September 11, 2009, attacked the Moncada Barracks on July 26, 1953, together with a group of young people led by Fidel Castro.
After these events, he went to exile in Mexico and later arrived in Cuban as one of the 82 Granma yatch’s expedition members who resumed the armed struggle until the overthrow of the Fulgencio Batista regime (1952-1958).
Platoon leader and Commander of the Third Front in that guerrilla group, he held state responsibilities, in the Communist Party and as a lawmaker in Parliament.
