The 42nd ordinary session, headed by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, discussed the proposed proclamation establishing the Edrmc, the main objective which is to operationalize the reforms initiated by the Commission.
According to the Office of the Ethiopian Head of Government, it seeks to foster a culture of mutual support among the population, mitigate the social, economic and moral impacts of disasters and integrate humanitarian assistance, sustainable development programs and peace-building efforts.
After in-depth discussions, the Council unanimously decided to forward the proclamation to the House of People’s Representatives (Parliament) for further review and eventual ratification.
The agenda included the review of three draft regulations concerning the establishment of institutions linked to national defense.
The Regulation for the Establishment of the Ethiopian Defense University proposes organizational reforms and operational adjustments to enhance the university’s ability to fulfill its mission.
For their part, the Defense Specialized Referral Hospitals Group and the Defense Diagnostic Centers Establishment Regulation are designed to address the country’s need for advanced medical, diagnostic and other services.
Meanwhile, the Defense Engineering Industry Group Establishment Regulation clarifies the group’s role in national development by outlining its missions and responsibilities.
After deliberations the Council unanimously approved the three regulations, decided to take effect from the date of their publication in the Negarit Gazette.
