In a statement posted on its account on X social media, the Ministry affirmed that it is following up the case with the Interior Ministry to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
It reiterated its commitment to protect journalists and provide them with a safe working environment to ensure that they can perform their duties without being targeted.
Journalist Saleh Ibrahim was abducted last Tuesday while he was in the capital’s Bab Mousala neighborhood.
According to his relatives, hooded men claiming to be members of the General Security took Saleh to an unknown location, and asked for him at all security headquarters without result.
Saleh used to work as director of the state-owned news channel Ikhbariya and was removed from his post after the fall of Bashar Al-Assad’s government last December.
Several journalists and media professionals widely condemned Ibrahim’s abduction and expressed their solidarity to the family, as well as demanded that his whereabouts be revealed.
