Cuban and Brazilian universities sign work agreement

Matanzas, Cuba, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and the University of Matanzas (UM) signed a work agreement on Friday to promote joint research projects.

According to the institutional Facebook page of the UM, renowned academics and researchers from the Brazilian university visited the center to pen the bilateral agreement, which will boost exchange between the institutions.

The director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences of the UFBA, Marcelo Moura, said that both his academy and the Cuban institution have much in common, and this will be the beginning of many collaborations.

We are here as part of an international research project, which will pave the way to other scientific and academic spaces, he said.

Moura added that both the UM and the UFBA can build values together in order to serve society in the academic-scientific field.

The rector of the Universityt of Matanzas, Leyda Finalé, thanked the Brazilian visitors and expressed her wish for success in the work to be done jointly between the academies.

During the meeting, the president of the Culture and Identity Chair at the UM, Ivis Nancy Piedra, presented the main lines of work being done at the center and addressed issues related to Cubanness and raciality.

At the end of the meeting, Doctor in social history Lacy Maia donated the book Conspiracies of the Colored Race: Slavery, Freedom and Racial Tensions in Santiago de Cuba (1864-1881) to the library of the University of Matanzas.
