World Radio Day focuses on climate change

Havana, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) "Radio and Climate Change" is on Thursday the central theme of World Radio Day that transcends within the new communication systems.

This edition urges that broadcasters should prioritize the quality and diversity of information sources, as they play an essential role in addressing climate-related issues, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) stressed.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which must peak this year to limit global warming to below 1.5°C, is crucial to the climate crisis.

“In a context where climate change has a differentiated impact on territories and communities, radio is positioned as a strategic medium for disseminating environmental information and strengthening community resilience,” the UNESCO report states.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established this date in 2012 to acknowledge the relevance of radio, currently considered the most emblematic and dynamic medium.
