According to a statement published on the Presidency’s X account, the commission is formed by five men and two women: Hassan al-Daghim, Maher Alloush, Muhammad Mustat, Mustafa al-Musa, Youssef al-Hajr, Hind Qabwat and Huda al-Atassi, and will be in charge of approving its internal regulations and establishing its working rules to guarantee the success of the dialogue process.
The function of the body will end once the final dispatch of the National Dialogue Conference is issued.
The decision to form the committee comes after Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara met with a delegation from the Syrian Negotiating Commission and the Syrian National Opposition Coalition, which operated from outside the country, and whose mission ended with the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government.
Al-Shara announced the formation of a preparatory committee that would hold broad consultations ahead of the National Conference, which will issue a final declaration paving the way for a constitutional declaration, which will determine the future of the country. He added that the formulation of the constitutional declaration, which will determine the shape and destiny of the country, will not be an individual decision, but rather the result of broad consultations reflecting the will of the people.
On whether there is a timetable for these pre-election stages, al-Shara estimated that the period will be approximately four to five years prior to the elections, and justified that this is because there is no infrastructure and the country lacks a census.
