Cuba and China review priorities on bilateral agenda

Havana, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The governments of Cuba and China on Thursday assessed priority programs, projects and intentions on the bilateral agenda, according to a press release from the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

For this purpose, Interim Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver and Chinese Ambassador in Havana Hua Xin met here, the communiqué says without elaborating on the topics they discussed.

The meeting took place at the Foreign Ministry’s headquarters “in a fraternal atmosphere” and “allowed ratifying the excellent state of political dialogue between both countries,” adds the text, which was published on the official website Cubaminrex.

It notes that the occasion was a good opportunity to “reaffirm the common will to advance in the practical construction of the Cuba-China Community of Shared Future, in the year of the 65th anniversary of bilateral relations.”

“Peñalver conveyed Cuban authorities’ gratitude for the constant support and backing” of the Chinese Party and Government for Cuba, “especially in the current situation caused by the intensification of the blockade and the recent impact of natural phenomena,” it stresses.

“Ambassador Hua Xin reiterated China’s commitment to continuing to strengthen ties with Cuba, and to expand cooperation of mutual benefit and shared gains, despite the challenges imposed by the current international scenario.”

Also present at the meeting on the Cuban side were Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Deborah Rivas, and the Director General of Bilateral Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Carlos Miguel Pereira, among other officials, it concludes.
