Colombian President pays official visit to Doha, Qatar

Bogota, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will begin today an official visit to Doha, Qatar, as part of his tour through Middle East countries.

The president is traveling with a delegation made up of the Foreign Minister, Laura Sarabia; the Minister of Mines, Andrés Camacho; the Minister of Science, Yesenia Olaya; the Ministers in charge of Cultures, Yannai Kadamani and of Information Technologies and Communications, Belfor García; as well as the President of Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa, according to a timely announcement by the Presidency.

Petro will arrive in Qatar after a two-day visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he met with dignitaries of that country and participated in the World Government Summit, a space for talks where international leaders, experts and representatives of the private sector analyze the trends that will mark the future of governance.

During his stay in the Arab State, both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations, with special emphasis on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and cooperation in strategic sectors.

An official communication stated that this was endorsed after a meeting between the President, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the President of New Granada.

At the meeting, the South American head of state extended an official invitation to the sheikh to travel to the city of Santa Marta, in northeastern Colombia, and told his Emirati counterpart of his country’s interest in advancing collaboration in key areas such as technology, infrastructure and renewable energies.
